Manhole Spacing and Placement Standards
Manholes aren't placed at arbitrary intervals — their location follows specific design rules intended to keep every foot of pipe reachable for inspection and cleaning equipment. Per the Ten States Standards (Recommended Standards for Wastewater Facilities), manholes are required:
- At the end of each line
- At all changes in grade, pipe size, or alignment
- At all pipe intersections
