Georgia Wastewater Treatment Certification: NPDES, ACF Basin & the Class IV–I Ladder
Certification Structure
Georgia wastewater treatment operators are certified Class IV (entry) through Class I (highest) by the Georgia State Board of Examiners, under the Secretary of State's office. Certificates renew biennially; higher classes require progressively more continuing-education hours per renewal cycle.
Plant Types Across the State
Georgia's wastewater infrastructure spans two very different scales:
- Large metro-Atlanta activated-sludge plants, discharging to the Chattahoochee River basin
- Smaller package and lagoon plants serving rural Coastal Plain communities
