Certification Ladder
North Carolina water distribution operators are certified under 15A NCAC 18D on an ascending Class D → C → B → A ladder, administered by the Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Board (the same board that certifies treatment plant operators). Certification renews annually, with fees due December 31 and delinquency (doubled fees) beginning February 1.
Trench Shoring Requirement
A distinguishing feature of NC's distribution certification is the trench shoring training requirement: applicants for Grade C-Distribution and above must complete a certificate of trench shoring training from a Board-approved school.
